The Senate Finance Committee has released a long awaited bipartisan discussion draft that contains 68 provisions aimed at improving tax administration and strengthening taxpayer services. The draft was authored by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Ranking member Ron Wyden (D-OR) in a bipartisan attempt to improve taxpayer service and rights in every part of the Internal Revenue Service.

NAEA has been working closely with Senators Crapo and Wyden and their staff, and we look forward to continuing to work with them on these important initiatives. The package includes many provisions that NAEA has been advocating for including minimum standards for tax preparers, improvements to math error notices, expanded taxpayer protection, and modernization of taxpayer correspondence.

“We are so pleased that this draft includes a wide range of tax administration improvements that NAEA has long supported,” said Twila Midwood, EA, and President of the National Association of Enrolled Agents. “We see this as a huge step towards advancing IRS modernization and service improvements for all taxpayers.”

The full discussion draft can be found here as well as a section-by-section of the legislation found here. We encourage all enrolled agents to review and submit their comments to discussiondraft@finance.senate.gov before the March 31, 2025, deadline.
