NAEA Hosts its 49th Annual Meeting
The annual members’ meeting was held on August 18, 2021, via Zoom. There were 65 NAEA members in attendance during the virtual meeting, where Mark Dennin, senior legislative assistant to Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), discussed the Taxpayer Protection and Preparer Proficiency Act. This legislation, which is jointly supported by NAEA and other organizations representing licensed tax preparers, will create more regulation of tax preparers and protect taxpayers from unscrupulous providers.
There were 12 past presidents in attendance, and it was also noted that member Mary McGuire was present for her 44th annual meeting!
Members also heard updates from President David Tolleth and EVP Meg Killian, who shared details on NAEA’s strategic and operational initiatives. Both acknowledged it has been a tough year for NAEA with a great deal of disruption, but there is a plan. The path ahead is much clearer as we continue to work through technology challenges and reimagine programs and services to reflect the current needs of members.
There was also a robust discussion about the visibility and accessibility of the board. Members expressed their desire to have a more direct line to reach board members and voted in favor of developing a secure method of communication for this purpose.
Thank you to all who turned out for the meeting.
