March 20, 2020

Along with many other professional associations, we have been watching the coronavirus situation closely with respect to its impact on the NAEA community. It is through this lens and with deep regret that we announce the cancellation of NAEA’s May 2020 Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.

We arrived at this difficult decision because of recent, notable developments regarding the novel coronavirus including, but not limited to Washington D.C.’s ban on gatherings of 50+ attendees and the significant uncertainties surrounding the incubation time and transmission of coronavirus.

Here is what this means for the events that were scheduled for the 2020 Leadership Summit:

  • Affiliate Presidents Exchange meeting is postponed and will occur, tentatively, in conjunction with the National Conference in August.
  • NAEA Fly-In Day and the invitation-only Congressional Club Breakfast are postponed and will occur, tentatively, in mid-September.
  • Board of Directors meeting will occur in-person in May as planned and will be virtual for participants. Members will receive instructions on how to dial in to the meeting and participate closer to the meeting date.

We cautioned Fly-In applicants to refrain from travel plans until notified of acceptance and notified no one of acceptance, so are relieved applicants will not need to cancel or modify flights. Further, we will be refunding application fees to every applicant. Please be patient as refunds may take a week to 10 days to process.

Details on the postponed events will be forthcoming, though we don’t expect that to happen until after the May 15 Board meeting. We live in fluid times, and NAEA will continue to make decisions based on the information at hand at any given time.

To cancel your hotel reservations, please call the Hyatt at 703-418-1234, or cancel through the housing confirmation you received via email. Any housing questions should be directed to meetings@naea.org.

Thank you to everyone who helped prepare for this highly regarded annual event. We will miss this shared experience.

On behalf of the NAEA community, thank you for your membership and understanding during these challenging times. Stay safe and healthy and we look forward to seeing you in August.

Onward!
